Four simple principles keep the focus on the person using it.

User-Friendly

Make it easy on the person using it.

Reduce unnecessary forms, interruptions, permissions, confusion, and decisions that do not help the person accomplish what they came to do.

Ask when it helps: information, permissions, and commitments should normally be requested when providing them creates an understandable benefit for the user.

This can be described more formally as Just-in-Time Data: collect what is necessary when it becomes useful instead of demanding unrelated information before the person can receive value.

Necessary security, payment, legal, safety, or account information can still be requested when genuinely required.

Intuitive

People should be able to tell what to do without decoding the interface.

Labels, controls, navigation, choices, and next actions should make sense where they appear.
Good interfaces reduce guessing, avoid hidden rules, use familiar patterns when possible, and make the likely result of an action understandable before the user commits to it.

Customizable

Let people adapt the experience to their needs and preferences.

Different people need different levels of detail, tools, defaults, content, priorities, and ways to work.
Useful customization should improve the experience without forcing people through complicated setup first. Sensible defaults should work immediately, while meaningful choices remain available when the person wants them.

Efficient

Help people get the result with as little unnecessary work as possible.

Reduce repeated entry, unnecessary clicks, waiting, hunting, scrolling, and avoidable decisions.
Efficiency is not merely speed. It means reducing wasted effort while preserving the information, control, flexibility, and confidence the user actually needs to get the result they want.
